ABOUT UNITED WAY
What We Do: Focus Areas
The United Way targets its community impact on three focus areas:
Education - a quality education leads to a stable job with a livable wage
Strategies:
- Support quality preschool programs
- Promote positive parental involvement
- Fund tutoring, mentoring, and after-school programs
Income - a livable wage will support a family through retirement
Strategies:
- Stabilize families in crisis by funding programs that address immediate needs
- Build family financial literacy by funding programs that teach financial skills and assist with home ownership
- Provide free services, such as information/referral through 2-1-1 and income tax preparation through C.A.S.H.
Health - available, accessible and affordable health care keeps children on track at school, adults productive at work and the elderly independent in their own homes
Strategies:
- Funding services that address emergency health issues
- Funding programs that intervene and improve existing physical or psychological problems
- Funding free or low cost programs that prevent health problems and provide direct health care and support
Remove any one of these building blocks and the other two topple.
