ABOUT UNITED WAY
What We Do:  Focus Areas

The United Way targets its community impact on three focus areas:

Education - a quality education leads to a stable job with a livable wage

     Strategies:

  • Support quality preschool programs
  • Promote positive parental involvement
  • Fund tutoring, mentoring, and after-school programs

Income - a livable wage will support a family through retirement

     Strategies:

  • Stabilize families in crisis by funding programs that address immediate needs
  • Build family financial literacy by funding programs that teach financial skills and assist with home ownership
  • Provide free services, such as information/referral through 2-1-1 and income tax preparation through C.A.S.H.

Health - available, accessible and affordable health care keeps children on track at school, adults productive at work and the elderly independent in their own homes

     Strategies:

  • Funding services that address emergency health issues
  • Funding programs that intervene and improve existing physical or psychological problems
  • Funding free or low cost programs that prevent health problems and provide direct health care and support

Remove any one of these building blocks and the other two topple.
